Bureau of Prisons

The Federal Bureau of Prisons is a bureau of the United States Department of Justice responsible for the custody and care of federal inmates and the administration of the Federal prison system. Established by the act of May 14, 1930 (18 U.S.C. 4041 et seq.), it operates institutions, regional offices, and reentry programs, and is headed by a Director appointed by and serving directly under the Attorney General.
